Tell him that I've not forgotten what an arsehole he was when he refused to sign an autograph after a test match at the WACA in 1998. Like the rest of the England fans we'd only spend thousands of pounds travelling to the other side of the world to support him and the team.

Poor behavior I don't doubt, but I suggest out of character
He lives/lived just up the road from me and without labouring detail, nothing was ever to much hassle for him in normal life when ever I came into company with him. Sort of bloke who would be good to have a beer with and understated, not at all what I suspected

He signed my Essex hat at Chelmsford late 90s I guess when playing for Yorkshire and seemed pleasant enough. My Mum helpfully decided to then put the hat in the washing machine some time after as she thought it looked dirty!!

Met him in 2004 in South Africa while England were playing ODIs. To a man the squad were really friendly, hanging about for a chat, asking about our journey (we'd come overland from Egypt and looked like it) - they were just like 'normal' blokes. Except Darren Gough, who was much more like your standard footballer - speaking was a hassle, an autograph was a hassle. He was arrogant whereas the others were down-to-earth.
I've always resisted completely judging him because I don't know what had gone on beforehand, but the difference between him and the rest was stark.
